Yin for Summer Solstice

Join me for a yin yoga summer solstice practice that honours the radiance of our inner light.


Summer Solstice Ritual


The summer solstice is time when the sun is at a zenith in the sky, and nature is in full bloom. It's a magical passage from the waters of spring into the fire of the summer months.


This yin practice celebrates the goodness that is present in our lives, and what brings us simple joy and happiness. Through our intentions, our practice becomes sacred.


Summer Solstice Sequence


Light a candle, and I'll guide you through a 40 minute seasonal yin practice that balances the warm summer energies with the cool and fluid nature of the second chakra, the svadhisthana:


  • Half Butterfly: Open one leg to the side of your mat, and bend your opposite knee. Melt forward, and breathe into your sacrum and lengthen the ligaments of your back. Switch sides.

  • Eye of the Needle: Lower onto your back, and cross one ankle over the opposite thigh. Soften into sensation through your outer hip and gluteus. Hug legs closer to deepen. Switch sides.

  • Twist with Variation: Hold your top ankle, and drop into a spinal twist with your foot rooted into the earth. Breathe into your side body and the curvature of your spine. Switch sides.

  • Waterfall: Finish with a supported inversion to welcome the passage of fluids to the heart and lungs. Pause here, and bask in the joy of your inner light.
